Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. At the age five she moved to Oxfordshire where she studied at the Dragon School. Emma was aspired to become a professional actor from the age of aged six. She was enrolled at Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford which is an acting academy with part-time courses. The actress had performed in numerous Stagecoach and school productions by the time she turned ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford drama teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after having eight consecutive auditions. Emma's first appearance on the big screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. This film was 2001's highest grossing film, breaking records during the opening day and first weekend. The film was praised by experts, and also by the performances of its three stars. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British paper, praised her for her outstanding performance. Emma received five awards in recognition of her work in the film.
